Week9-Monograph by Martin Parr

Martin Parr’s monograph, Small World

Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer, the monograph Small World is one of his major projects. Concepts related to consumption and leisure are always is inspirations that which encourage him to travel worldwide in order to take photos so as to examine the exchange of culture internationally brought by globalisation.

This book is a monograph relayed to mass tourism, it was originally published in 1995, later on a revised version was published in the year of 2007.  In my opinion, this book does not merely show how people travel around the world but also bring the message that people from different culture and background are interacting and it also raise the problem of how global culture may destroy a local culture when people are trying to suit the interest of tourist which may lead to the confusion with their identity as a local.
